How to Become More Self-Disciplined

How to Become More Self-Disciplined

Self-discipline is critical to achieving goals that you’ve set for yourself whether in your professional or personal life. Sometimes, it may be difficult to attain the goals because you’re having trouble creating the self-discipline required. Here are a few ways to...

What Personal Development Style Are You?

What Personal Development Style Are You?

People learn through different styles such as visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. The same holds true with a personal development style. As with learning, people will have different personal development styles. It takes knowing what the different styles are in order to determine which style you identify most with.

The Explorer
The explorer personal development style is that of curiosity, exploring the environment surrounding you along with relationships and consciousness. Explorers are willing to attempt different ideas and new experiences just for the joy of having that new experience. Scientists tend to end up being explorers. They have a constant pursuit of greater understanding of new things. The greatest joy for someone who is an explorer is the thrill of new discoveries and opportunities.

The Builder
Almost the opposite of the explorer, a person who is a builder will focus themselves on creating, collecting, and training. They enjoy creating things by spending hours and months on new projects. The act of creating is what brings them their greatest joy. Essentially, it comes down to building the best life possible for themselves. A great example of a builder is an entrepreneur. Entrepreneurs build businesses from the ground up and are able to create to their heart’s content.

The Innovator
Innovators are usually the first people to uncover unique solutions to current day problems. They are almost always able to offer up insights that others generally don’t see. Innovators can tie-in with the builders because they also enjoy creating. The only true difference is that they enjoy creating things never seen before. One of the best examples of an innovator would be Leonardo DaVinci. He wasn’t just an artist. DaVinci was constantly creating new things and inventing. Innovators are constantly trying to find new ideas to make things better, faster, or greater. They tend to have a non-linear thought line and don’t look for obvious solutions.

The Optimizer
Optimizers are people who like to focus on creating small and continuous improvements. You could call them people who like to “tinker” with things. They build little by little by making continuous and gradual improvements. When trying to figure out your personal development style, the innovator may come across as the more exciting style but, the optimizer style often has more consistent levels of success.

As mentioned before, it’s best to know what each personal development style holds before you can really pinpoint which style best fits for you. Each person will have a different personal development style so it’s important to understand how each fits in your life before focusing all your energy on one specific style.

Crash Course in Personal Development

Crash Course in Personal Development

Personal development is the essentially setting yourself up for the best possible life. There are many facets of personal development that are helpful to reaching that goal. Personal development can be used to better understand yourself, your job, your relationships, and more. More times than not, personal development gets a bad reputation because of the companies out there that charge for seminars, lectures, etc. In reality, it simply means that the method is tried and true if there is a charge for it.

There are some things to keep in mind when diving into the world of personal development.

Research
When trying to decide which life coach or mentor is the right fit for you, do a little research before making that commitment. See if that life coach or mentor’s teaching style aligns with your personal learning style. It’s a good practice to review testimonials or reviews from their current and past clients to figure out if they are worth the effort of looking into any further than initial research. The old adage “try before you buy” applies extremely well here.

Be Open
Don’t be afraid to try new experiences! When you first start professional development, it’s important that you’re ready and willing to learning and developing new techniques. If you aren’t open, you won’t be receptive enough to the techniques that will allow you to learn and grow within yourself. You have to actually utilize everything that you’re being taught to get the most “bang for your buck.”

Repeat
As with anything, practice makes perfect. The new techniques and development tools that you’ve been given will need to be repeated and perfected. One of the biggest aspects of repeating these techniques, it’s essential to know that failure is okay. We don’t get anywhere unless we pick ourselves back up when we’ve fallen. Time and persistence are key elements in personal development.

If you feel that personal development is right for you, it will be a great beginning to a new and positive change in your life. When we learn new things and skills, new doors open up to new opportunities in both your professional and personal life. You must simply remember that trial and error is a big component of personal development. Failure can be an option and, most likely, you’ll fail at least once along the way. The best thing to do is just pick yourself up and keep going.
