How to Become the Best Version of Yourself
Most people want to improve who they are and work on weaknesses that may be holding them back each day. Although you may have suffered from setbacks in life and can't control your circumstances, you can still decide to improve who you are as an individual so you can...
Lessons Learned While in Credit Card Debt
Sometimes, we may find ourselves in credit card debt and it may seem that we can’t get out of the hole we’re stuck in. This is simply untrue. There are options available and lessons to be learned while you’re in credit card debt.
Build a Budget
Building a simple budget and matches how you think about money can greatly help in taking steps toward reducing your debt. Most people don’t think of their money in a monthly time frame with the exception of their rent/mortgage and utility bills. Make sure that this budget includes things like groceries, gas, clothes, or even unexpected car repairs.
Pay Attention
Sometimes, just paying the minimum payment on a credit card statement will take you longer to pay off the debt than it would if you were to increase your payment by even a few dollars. Unfortunately, interest compounds on credit card balances and it can make it seem that you’re not even making a dent in the balance. Pay attention to interest rates on credit cards and put together a solid plan to get the debt paid off sooner rather than later.
Talk to an Expert
It’s recommended that you talk to an expert when it comes to debt whether this comes in the form of a financial expert such as a credit counselor or perhaps even a trusted friend or family member that has gone through the same process and achieved success. By utilizing trusted resources, you can start to begin your journey to becoming debt free.
Become Financial Responsible
Paying off debt is something that nearly everyone has to do. Once that debt is paid off, it can feel like a giant weight being lifted off your shoulders and you will have a better understanding of how to track your spending and how to handle your finances.
While getting out of debt requires a great deal of work, it’s something that will set you up for success for future endeavors that require great credit and financial stability.
Celebrating Holidays in the Office
Holidays are a great time to introduce your employees to all the different traditions and holidays that are celebrated worldwide. It is generally recommended that leadership doesn’t ask their employees to keep their religious holiday observances separate from work. It has been found that the best way to approach these types of holidays is to simply make sure that nobody feels excluded or forced to participate in any workplace festivities. Diversity should be celebrated within the workplace so that all employees feel welcome and not just a select few.
The Civil Right Act of 1964 states that employers cannot discriminate based on religion and must “reasonably accommodate employees’ sincerely held religious practices”. With this statute, employees cannot be fired if their religion forbids them from working on the Sabbath. Employers have found a variety of ways to celebrate holidays and still allow for adherence to the rules set forth by the Civil Right Act. Some of these methods have been giving major Christian and Jewish holidays off and attempting to include major Muslim holidays as well. Other employers may give just Christmas as a day off but offer floating holidays as part of the employee benefits package that employees can use for other religious holidays.
Holiday Parties
Most HR professionals have said that their organizations have an end-of-year/holiday party that’s open to all employees. They do this to be sensitive to people’s religions. Some steps to take when planning a holiday party at the office would include things like making the part nondenominational, making the attendance of these parties voluntary, and placing those of different religions on the party-planning committee.
Try to be inclusive of all holidays that are celebrated within your office and simply have fun with it! There’s no reason that you can’t celebrate holidays throughout the year and make them inclusive for everyone. This can help offer a boost to workplace morale and make your employees feel that they matter as individuals and not just a workforce.
